Climate Change

“We are the first generation to feel the sting of climate change, and we are the last generation that can do something about it.”

Climate Change in Our Backyard

Understand how our climate is changing in Gqeberha/Port Elizabeth and across South Africa — and stay informed about what is being done about it. We are getting hotter, but we can respond thoughtfully and build our resistance to climate change.

Why It Matters

From shifting rainfall patterns to hotter summers and increased coastal weather events, the Eastern Cape is already experiencing the effects of global climate change.

In Gqeberha and the surrounding region, this means greater risk of flooding, drought stress on native vegetation, and threats to marine and terrestrial wildlife alike.

At Wise Owl Lifestyle, we believe that by understanding these changes, you gain the power to respond to them and prepare yourself — even from home.

What We’re Exploring (Our Educational Role)

Our Focus

• Unpacking the local impacts of climate change on the Eastern Cape’s natural heritage and communities.

• Connecting global science to local action — so you can understand what’s changing and why it matters.

• Providing clear, accessible guides and stories rather than only technical jargon.

• Spotlighting organisations, researchers and community groups working on climate resilience in South Africa.

Though we are based in Gqeberha and live with physical limitations, we believe our efforts in education, insight, and connection help amplify the work of those on the ground. Every article you read and share helps build awareness, shape policy, and support resilience in its many forms.
